“When you start a new fitness program, it’s usually because somewhere in you, you either feel uncomfortable in your body, disappointed in how you view your body, or worried you aren’t showing up for your health.n nEven if it’s challenging to get moving, the truth is that any movement you do with your own body should feel good. Exercise is the greatest gift we can give to our mental and physical health, as it’s both preventative and healing. That being said, not all movements are designed to create balance. When we start to see physical results from exercise, most programs do not have the data nor the expertise to go the distance. When you decide to start a fitness plan, it’s usually because you have a strong desire to change your body fast, and you can’t get anywhere fast with your body without harming your mental and physical health.n nSo let’s just pause and take a moment to check in with ourselves. Being able to tell yourself the truth about where you’ve been—and where you are—is very important. Yes, all the way back to the first moment you quit that sport, stopped that online class, left the gym, skipped the runs. Ask yourself: What happened, and why? You have to look very honestly about everything you consume, how you manage your stress, and how well you actually know yourself. These things matter, because even when the truth is hard to swallow, it liberates you. The truth creates the space you need to grow.” @tracyandersonmethod

Find a workout that makes you feel good — not one that promises “results.”nnBecause results are arbitrary at best, and no matter what kind of workout you do, if your body isn’t genetically engineered to wind up looking a certain way, it won’t. Nor should it — it’d be boring if we all looked the same. Instead, find something that feels good, something you wouldn’t mind hauling yourself to after a long day or early in the morning. nnIt could literally be anything, but focus on how good it feels to move your body rather than how it might or might not make your body look. nnThe endorphin boost is a much more instantaneous result — and it’s scientifically proven, too.

Most people don’t know the profound effects of making life decisions. nnOften times, we go through life oblivious to what thoughts we are thinking and what actions we are taking. nnEvery single decision we make in our days shapes our current reality. “In less than two generations, physical activity has dropped by 20% in the U.K. and 32% in the U.S. In China, the drop is 45% in less than one generation. Vehicles, machines and technology now do our moving for us. What we do in our leisure time doesn’t come close to making up for what we’ve lost” - designedtomove.orgnnBeing sedentary has become "normal". A modern human has the luxury to ask why run? Why jump? Why climb? nWhen everything is accessible, when you are not forced to move to catch your prey or avoid being prey. nnMost people have a disconnect between their mind and body. We work in jobs that don't require our bodies, simply sitting at desks clicking mouse buttons and tapping on keyboards. nnThe narrative and relationship between our bodies and our movement is forgotten, not heard, ignored. We only notice our bodies when "something goes wrong" with it. nnWe have, in effect, betrayed our bodies, ignoring and dishonouring them by using them purely as “locomotive devices" to transport the head.nnExercise is optional, movement is essential. Take a walk, danse, jump, spin, run, stretch... at least 30 minutes/day. Your body will thank you.
