[Front Lines Tutoring, Part Three]: After founding Front Lines Tutoring in March 2020 and growing to a network of over 400 tutors, Mackenzie’s mission remains clear. It’s about helping kids and the families of those kids.nn“I really just want to positively impact the families we’re working with. I want their kids to succeed in school and reach their academic goals. I hope that we’re lightening the load on parents while they try to manage work, kids being home, and the rigors of virtual learning.” - Mackenzie, Founder of Front Lines Tutoring.n nRecognizing that the current state of the world has left many people feeling isolated, Mackenzie, Angie, and Akash continue to leverage the power of social media to provide everyone in the Front Lines Tutoring family a sense of connection. From Facebook Groups where tutors and students can form a better bond, to Instagram where Front Lines Tutoring features new tutors to provide a sense of community for everyone on board.nn“The human contact we can get through Front Lines Tutoring using Facebook and Instagram is really meaningful right now."nnWhile looking towards the future, Mackenzie is humbled by Front Lines Tutoring’s past. The nonprofit has seen unbelievable growth while impacting families across the country in so many ways. nn“This initiative has become a part of me in the past year. I’m so proud of the work we’re doing, the team we’ve built, and the service we’re providing. And I’m so humbled we’ve been able to help as many families as we have.”
[Front Lines Tutoring, Part Two]: Initially, Mackenzie was running Front Lines Tutoring by herself, but after recruiting her new business partners, Angie and Akash, it didn’t take long for word to spread. nn“Originally, we just released a tutor application at UCLA, and it seemed like almost overnight it spread all around the country. It was really inspiring to see how many young adults in college wanted to give back to healthcare workers during this time.” - Mackenzie, Founder of Front Lines Tutoring. n nWith the help of their growing network, they shared the application on the Facebook App, and each of the new tutors was featured on Front Lines Tutoring’s Instagram. n n“Facebook and Instagram are crucial to our growth. They’ve been crucial in spreading the word about Front Lines Tutoring, getting new tutors, and finding parents that need this service.” nnNow with over 400 tutors who have provided over 20,000 hours of tutoring, Front Lines Tutoring is bustling and Mackenzie’s idea has turned into a burgeoning nonprofit. With that success, she has some advice for anyone out there with a willingness and desire to help. n n“If you have a passion, an idea, and you can build a team of people that are willing to help contribute to that idea and help make it a reality, go for it. There’s no limit to what we can accomplish and there’s no act that’s too small.”
[Front Lines Tutoring, Part One]: “It became apparent pretty quickly there was no end in sight to this pandemic. And the repercussions of it on the educational experience of K-12 kids, college students and beyond would be long-lasting.” - Mackenzie, Founder of Front Lines Tutoring. nnFrom an early age, Mackenzie knew she wanted to help people. That passion led her to study Psychobiology at UCLA. nnFlash forward to 2020 when the pandemic closed schools nationwide. Mackenzie, like many students, was forced to complete her degree online. It was then she became acutely aware of the difficulties of distance learning compared to in-person classroom settings, especially for younger students who happened to be children of frontline workers. nn“It got me thinking about healthcare workers and the crazy hours they are working day and night. Now all of a sudden, they're in charge of their kids’ education in addition to all that and I just can't imagine how difficult it can be to manage.” n nMackenzie decided to transform her sympathy into action by calling local ERs to see if nurses and doctors had children in need of a little extra tutoring. The frontline workers Mackenzie was able to help ended up sharing their children’s success with coworkers. Before long, Mackenzie had more requests than she could fulfill on her own. nnWith the help of former colleagues, Angie and Akash, they posted on the Facebook App to recruit tutors and used Instagram to give those new tutors a special shout-out. Soon, they had people reaching out from all over the country asking how they could donate their time.
