Each year, a select number of students from the first year class are invited to join Emory Law’s Mock Trial Society. Students are chosen based on their aptitude in advocacy and trial skills.
Throughout the remainder of their law school careers, these students compete in local, regional, and national mock trial competitions. They perform as advocates as well as play witness roles. In addition, each third year member acts as a mentor and coach to incoming society members
The Emory Law Mock Trial Society has performed well in the last few years. In the 2011-2012 academic year, Emory advanced in seven of the eleven trial advocacy competitions it attended. Emory placed first in the William W. Daniel National Invitational Mock Trial Competition, the Miami Regional ABA Section of Labor and Employment Law Student Trial Advocacy Competition, the Puerto Rico Invitational Trial Advocacy Competition, and the Atlanta Regional AAJ Student Trial Advocacy Competition.
In the 2012-2013 academic year, Emory tied for fifth place in the Atlanta Regional AAJ Student Trial Advocacy Competition. Emory advanced past the preliminary rounds in the Texas Young Lawyers Association National Trial Competition, the Michigan State National Trial Advocacy Competition, the Peter James Johnson ’49 National Civil Rights Trial Competition, and the Pacific McGeorge School of Law National Ethics Trial Competition. An Emory advocate received the Best Advocate Award at both the Michigan State National Trial Competition and the Pacific McGeorge School of Law National Ethics Trial Competition. Emory strives for success every year to achieve our goal of becoming one of the nation’s premier trial advocacy competition teams.

⚖️✨Meet Eliza del Carmen✨⚖️nnAll the way from Chattanooga, TN, Eliza joins the mock trial team as an Emory Law 2L. Prior to law school, Eliza studied Medicine, Health, & Society with a Minor in Sociology at Vanderbilt University. When she’s not studying for class, Eliza is busy being the Co-President of the Health Law Society, VP of Social Affairs for APALSA, Co-Secretary of the National Lawyers Guild, and the ABA representative. And if that’s not impressive enough, Eliza is also a part of the Emory Law TI:GER program.nnEliza mocks because she wants to practice and improve her oral advocacy skills (and because she likes winning arguments). In her free time, you might find her watching her favorite legal tv show, Better Call Saul, or completing the daily crossword (as she’s done every day for the past 2.5 years!)nnWelcome to the ELS Mock Family Eliza!
